On the hunt for a nutritious, vitamin-packed vegetable that is also loaded with great flavor? Try kale. There are many reasons to pile this cruciferous veggie on your plate. It is low in calories, has zero grams of fat and contains nearly 20 percent of the RDA of dietary fiber, which promotes regular digestion, prevents constipation, lowers blood sugar and curbs overeating.

Need more reasons? Kale also contains the glucosinolate isothiocyanate (ITC), which fights the formation of H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori), a bacteria that can attack the digestive system and cause big problems. Kale is also a superstar in the arena of carotenoids and flavonoids, two powerful antioxidants that protect our cells from free radicals that cause oxidative stress. There are also tons of vitamins in kale – think vitamin C, D, A, and K. All boost immunity, help maintain healthy bones and teeth, and maximize overall health. ENJOY!!

You may have just lost you last excuse for not exercising: Even those who wait until they’re 50 to ramp up their physical activity can boost their health – and lower their risk of premature death. In a Swedish study they followed 2,205 men for 32 years (from age 50 to age 82), those who increased their physical activity from low (couch potato) to medium (casual walker) to high (at least three hours of sports or heavy gardening a week) cut their mortality rate to half that of guys who stayed on the sofa. While researchers looked at men only, they’re confident the findings apply to women, too. Start today, urges lead researcher Liisa Byberg, Ph.D., of Uppsala University. Your risk may not drop for five years or more, but after 10, it will be as low as a lifelong jock’s.

5. Symptoms are not the problem, but an alert to an underlying cause and should be heeded, not silenced with chemicals (medication).

4. The body has an inborn ability to restore itself and will adapt to outside stressors, whether they are physical, emotional or chemical. When these stressors become too much, the body will eventually wear itself down trying to maintain balance; this results in an absence of health and wellness.

3. Wellness practitioners do not diagnose or treat conditions and diseases, but instead identify and remove outside stressors.

2. Wellness care focuses on improving function rather than hiding symptoms.

1. Doctors of chiropractic recognize the value of preventative care compared to symptom-based care. With regular adjustments, spinal health is maintained, encouraging proper nervous system function and allowing for the body to perform at its best.

“The other day Mom was quite excited when I was there to help her eat dinner on Tuesday. I asked her what was the big excitement. She replied – I saw the most beautiful spider in the whole world. I was rather amazed and asked her what it was doing. She said that it was busy making a net or web in her window. She said it was fascinating. Then she went on to say that always before if she saw a spider she quickly stepped on it or whacked it with a swatter to get rid of it – but no more. She said that she finally had time to watch it since it didn’t seem to be going anywhere to bite her. She said that it very carefully worked -seemingly in mid air – to make a thread into a frame. Then it continued to work crossways between the spokes of the frame for a long time. It would stop every so often to rest and then disappeared. Then she said that after awhile it came back and started in again and that the net grew more filled in and lace like. She said that she was so happy that at last she had time to see how hard these insects work and how beautiful the results are and that she is never going to dust away the cobwebs because these little creatures are like people – they work too hard and too well to have their work destroyed carelessly by those who don’t understand or care about anything but themselves.

I really thought that this was very insightful and wish that we could enjoy the basic things without always being in a hurry to do things that don’t last anyhow.”

My Mom shared this story with me this morning and I want to share it with you!
